WAYNE DARNELL BASS PLEADS GUILTY TO PASSING COUNTERFEIT CHECKS
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-- Wayne Darnell Bass, 46, of Charlotte, North Carolina, entered a plea of guilty on June 22, 2011, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Knoxville, to a three-count information charging him with passing counterfeit cashier’s checks. Sentencing has been set for October 26, 2011, before the Honorable Thomas A. Varlan, U.S. District Court Judge.
Bass faces a term of up to 10 years in prison for each count, along with criminal forfeiture, a potential fine and the obligation to pay restitution and a statutory assessment.
The information charged Bass with passing counterfeit cashier’s checks at a Food City location in Knoxville, the Airport Hilton in Alcoa, and at the Bass Pro Shop in Kodak, Tenn. This conviction was the result of an investigation by U.S. Secret Service, Knoxville Police Department, Sevierville Police Department, and Knoxville Airport Authority. Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank M. Dale, Jr. represented the United States.
